On a personal note

I came to screenwriting through an instinctive need to write.

I was that kind of kid who forever frustrated my English teacher by handing in thirty pages when two or three were asked for. Some habits don't change.

Films kept pulling me in alongside that.

Not always the obvious ones - Master and Commander still to this day hits home - even though historical epics aren't my natural territory. My taste runs to sci-fi, fantasy, horror, psychological thrillers. Stories that get under your skin.

The frustration though.

With so many existing screenwriting tools, the user experience is clunky and outdated - it hinders output. While most tools are built for writing, the impossible-to-ignore development and structural aspects are neglected.

On a professional note

My belief is - if you have solid structural foundations before you start writing, the blank page stops being a wall and the writing becomes more intuitive.
